As with most local organisations St. Mary’s Church, Houghton-on-the-Hill, relies on the help of volunteers. But in the case of St. Mary’s, volunteering takes many forms. At the heart of our work are our volunteer guides who welcome visitors, sometimes pilgrims, to the church and help them understand our remarkable building and precious wall paintings. Other volunteers help at fund-raising concerts, in particular serving refreshments in the garden. Yet others are working on St. Mary’s archive to ensure that the history of the church is permanently safeguarded.
So what might interest you in volunteering at St Mary’s? History, community, music, landscape, protecting a national asset? Whatever your skills, interests or passions, we have a role for you. Just contact us via our website below.
Meanwhile August is peak month for St. Mary’s summer concerts. Beginning on Sunday 10 August with classical guitarist Estavao Devides, our programme continues on Saturday 16 August with cellist Leo Popplewell who first performed at St. Mary’s last year. On Sunday 24 August, Mathew Lee will introduce the bog oak violin in a programme of classical music.
Full details of our summer programme is on the events page, click here to see details, with details of how to book and thus support this beautiful medieval church.
